What is an occupational therapist?

Occupational therapists are skilled professionals whose education includes the study of human growth and development with specific emphasis on the social, emotional, and physiological effects of illness and injury. The pediatric occupational therapist helps children achieve the skills they need for the "job of living."

These can include the "fine-motor" skills such as pencil-grip, cutting with scissors, working with small pieces, appropriate motor movement for a variety of activities.

Occupational therapy has traditionally focused on the individual and the function they need to perform.

There is some overlap in the areas of focus of the Occupational therapist and the Physical therapist.
