What is a speech therapist?

A speech therapist, or more correctly a speech-language pathologist, is a person trained in the diagnosing and treatment of speech and communication disorders, and swallowing functions.

Speech therapy has traditionally focused on articulation and proper sound production. Speech therapists also work on swallowing and eating issues, language development and language enrichment, and cognitive development.
